CHRISTOPHER MCDONALD

Meet Christopher McDonald! Christopher is a longtime resident of our community and co-owner of his own coffee shop. He has lived here since 1987 and said he became highly interested in coffee because “it runs in the family.”

“I have an uncle that owns a coffee shop in Charleston, my grandfather and my great uncle both owned a coffee shop, and I have a niece and nephew that are both baristas in a coffee chain store. My grandfather’s shop was called Coffee Shop. He was a marketing guru. Ha.”

We want to thank Christopher for spending a few minutes with us recently to tell us more about himself and his love for our community.

Question: What inspired you or led you to your career?

Answer: “It runs in the family. Even if I didn’t drink coffee, it is already in my blood.”

Q: What is your favorite local restaurant?

A: “Probably, Yellow Tail and I usually split and order of oysters and an order of their steamed shrimp.”

Q: What do you like about owning a business downtown?

A: “Where we used to work there was no foot traffic and here there is constant foot traffic. Sometimes I’ll run out in the street if I see someone I know and say hello. There’s just a lot more energy that has come back. It’s as lively as it can be.”

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met while living here?

A: “The first person that comes to mind, and I think she’s one of the kindest, sweetest people ever is Anna Belle Smith. She was an Army nurse during the end of WWII. Anna Belle is one of the sharpest and prettiest people you will ever meet.”

Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

A: “I would go to Spain, I went to Barcelona once and fell in love with the architecture and I would love to go to some of the surrounding cities because I love the architecture, the people, the food, everything.”

Q: What three bands would you want to see dead or alive?

A: “Donna Summer, The Rolling Stones and Queen.”

Q: If you could have lunch with anyone alive now and not a family member, who would it be?

A: “I would say Condoleezza Rice. That would be a great lunch!”

Q: What is your favorite thing about our community?

A: “That’s easy, the diversity and hospitality of our people.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?

A: “Right here. Working until I’m 80 and then some.”

Q: What is something interesting about you that some people don’t know?

A: “I want to one day hike the Appalachian Trail from north Georgia to Maine.”

Q: Name one of your favorite movies.

A: “Forrest Gump.”

Q: What are three words mean HOME to you?

A: “Love, serenity and coffee.”
